Work Day & Summer Status
Work Day & Summer Status
Dear KGRC Members,
We are just 3 weeks away from Opening Day at KGRC! With the weather (sometimes) getting warmer, we are all looking forward to getting back to the pool and into the water. The Facilities crew was hard at work getting a new pump installed and making the pool pump room more efficient over the winter. The pool is now full and clean and ready for action!
We are almost ready to go, but there is still work to do. In fact, we are reinstating the Member Work Day so we can all work together - albeit socially-distanced and in small groups - to get the whole club ready for summer!
Please read on for more on our membership team effort and what you can expect when you go to the pool this summer...
Member Work Day - Saturday, May 8:
What is left, you ask, before we can all enjoy the spring weather on the pool deck? Cleanup!
Over the winter our clubhouse and pool furniture sits unused so sprucing up is important. We have an impressive list of projects and need your help so that we can open on time and look as good as ever.
May 8th is our spring cleanup day. We have tasks for all ages and abilities including planting flowers, painting, and replacing broken deck planks. Somewhere among the list of things to get done is the perfect job for you!
The work is divided into small 60-90 minute jobs; of course, you are welcome to sign up for more than one slot.
Keep your eyes open for a Sign Up Genius list that I will be sending out in a few days.
Can’t be there on the 8th but still want to do your part? Don’t worry, we have things that can be done before or after the work day.
Member Work Day is a great way to see your pool friends again, meet new ones and help to make sure that your pool looks great for the start of the season. It also helps keep some operating costs down.
What can we expect when the pool opens on May 22?
After a strange season in 2020, with forever-changing mandates and Covid-19 protocols, 2021 is shaping up to feel a little closer to "normal". Part of that is because we now know how to navigate the ongoing pandemic, and this will play an important role in your summer experience. We still must comply with mandatory Covid-related "rules'', but some of our club operations will feel more familiar. Here are the highlights:
KGRC is required to operate at no more than 75% capacity, i.e., 130 people (including staff) on the pool deck.
Members will not need to make reservations for a swim time.
The membership card is mandatory for check-in. (This also helps with contact tracing.)
All members over the age of 5 and staff are required to wear a mask except when swimming, eating or, for our lifeguards, "on the stand". Masks are not required when in a cabana with your household family members, 10 feet from others.
Members not of the same household must remain 10 feet from each other in the pool and 6 feet apart when on the deck. Members are expected to strictly adhere to this rule, which is required by the state, and ensure all family members follow the rules.
Pool furniture will be available for use. Members will disinfect furniture with the provided supplies before and after use.
Bathrooms will be open, but showers and dressing rooms will remain closed. Swimmers are expected to come to the pool clean and dressed for swimming.
Early Morning Lap Swim will return this season.
KGRC Swim and Dive Teams will practice and compete! Separate emails will be sent to team members about protocols for our Dolphins.*
The Snack Shack will open.
Some of the above is subject to change, especially if there is a disregard for the distancing rules or if the state mandates change. We will send another email with more specifics before opening day.
The Board of Directors is appreciative of the membership's patience as we work through ways to meet the desire for being "wide open" and staying safe. Again, safety is the number one priority for all members and staff.
We look forward to seeing you on May 8th for Member Work Day and then May 22nd for Opening Day!
See you at the pool!
KGRC Board President
